The Los Angeles Dodgers front office has been busy at work this offseason in building up their roster, adding several big name players to their team. Coming off a World Series title, they kept a focus on how they can improve on all fronts.
Aside from roster building, the Dodgers began the process of some hefty renovations to Dodger Stadium. The current state of the playing surface is a construction zone, which has posed some hurdles and different challenges than years past.
However, the overall feeling of what this project will create is a leg-up for themselves, something that Dodgers manager Dave Roberts echoed when asked about if he’s excited about the renovation project.
“I am,” Roberts said. “We’re going to have a couple cages, the locker room and weight room is going to be kind of more current. Logistically, it will make more sense. It’s going to be close. Our home opener to when they get everything all buttoned up.
“I hear they’re working tirelessly, so we’ll see. I’m excited, yeah. My office is going to get a little bit bigger, which would be nice.”
Dodger Stadium underwent some extensive renovations in 2021 that were the largest project in several decades as a complete transformation to the center field plaza was completed.
This time around, the Dodgers found a way to build on their recent success, making quality of life additions to a stadium that is one of the oldest in Major League Baseball. Being a world-class organization, bringing them up to speed in every aspect builds on their stance as the model franchise.
Challenges of Dodger Stadium renovations
Speaking to the difficulties the current project has created, Dodgers president of baseball operations said things are operating much different than years past.
“It’s been a huge advantage for us in years past, having our Minor League players here and big league players train here, our chefs making breakfast and lunch, obviously the weather being perfect,” president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman told DodgerBlue.com.
“It’s been a challenge this winter. Making the most of it. We feel like it will be worth it in the end, but certainly a challenging offseason.”
