The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees in the 2024 World Series and were able to hold a parade for the first time since 1988.
It was a long time coming for the city as hundreds of thousands of Dodgers fans showed up to celebrate the team’s eighth title in franchise history.
Among the most memorable moments were manager Dave Roberts dancing with rapper Ice Cube and Clayton Kershaw and Teoscar Hernández delivering emotional messages to the crowd.
Jack Flaherty was also involved in a funny incident as he struggled to dap up Orel Hershiser during the parade. The right-hander hinted that he had a little too much to drink and thanked the Dodgers broadcaster for catching him from falling, via “The Rich Eisen Show:”
“It may have been a little bit of a struggle. I may have gone to dap up Orel Hershiser and kind of just whiffed and fell over a little bit. He caught me and gave me a big ole hug, so I appreciate Orel for that.”
Flaherty was acquired by the Dodgers at the trade deadline and went on to enjoy success with the club down the stretch.
He was inconsistent during the playoffs but had impressive performances in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series and again to begin the World Series against the Yankees.
The year ended with Flaherty winning a championship as a member of his hometown team, which he called a dream come true.
Jack Flaherty ‘never wants to leave’ Dodgers
Flaherty is now a free agent but made his feelings known about wanting to stay with the Dodgers.
“This is unbelievable. Seeing Freddie pictures everywhere, Freddie (Freeman) is the freaking man. I love that dude. I would give him a kiss right now. The city is showing out. It’s unbelievable,” Flaherty said of the support from Dodgers fans along the parade route in downtown Los Angeles.
“This is unbelievable. I never want to leave. I never want to leave. I just never want to leave.”
The Dodgers should be in the market for a starting pitcher this offseason, but Flaherty returning could hinge on whether his market materializes and if he potentially is open to a team-friendly deal to remain with L.A.
