Mookie Betts represented the Los Angeles Dodgers at the second annual All-MLB Awards Show at The Chelsea inside The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, where several players were recognized for their performances during the 2024 season.
The All-MLB First Team and Second Team were announced, with Betts, Shohei Ohtani and Teoscar Hernández among those earning a spot, and multiple awards were presented as well.
With Betts on hand, he took the stage to receive his All-MLB First Team plaque and was asked by Chris Young what advice he would give to players trying to win a World Series.
“Um,” Betts began before pausing for multiple seconds.
“I would say y’all just got to wait the next seven years. After that, then y’all can win. Right now, no. You’ve just got to wait.”
Betts’ reference to seven years alludes to his Dodgers contract, which in reality still has eight more seasons remaining. Betts signed a 12-year, $365 million contract extension with the Dodgers in July 2020.
Combined with the one year and $27 million that was on the deal Betts played out in 2020, his new Dodgers contract brought the total commitment from the team to 13 years and $392 million. Betts’ contract broke the previous extension record of $360 million signed by Mike Trout, and included a record $65 million signing bonus.
At the time, the contract also put Betts in a group that included Trout ($426.5 million), Bryce Harper ($330 million), Giancarlo Stanton ($325 million), Gerrit Cole ($324 million) and Manny Machado ($300 million) as players who signed for at least $300 million in MLB history.

Thursday was not the first time Betts made it clear he has a relenting drive to win more championships. He recently conveyed as much during the Dodgers’ World Series celebration at Dodger Stadium.
“When I became a Dodger, it was for what, 12 or 13 years? It was a lot of years, and we’ve got two so far,” Betts said. “We’ve got like eight, nine years left. I’ve got to get to at least five or six, right? We have to do this five or six times, right?
“I’ve got three. I’m trying to fill this hand up, L.A.”
Betts is the only active position player with three World Series titles.
