Among the Los Angeles Dodgers’ multiple moves at the 2024 MLB trade deadline was acquiring Kevin Kiermaier from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for Ryan Yarbrough.
The 34-year-old joined the team in the midst of a down season at the plate but still capable of playing Gold Glove-caliber defense.
Kiermaier was mostly used as a defensive replacement but nevertheless gave the Dodgers another well-respected veteran in the clubhouse.
Kiermaier previously hinted that the 2024 season would be his last and confirmed that he is going out as a World Series champion with the Dodgers.
What a time to be alive! Endin my career out as WORLD SERIES CHAMPS! All credit goes to my amazing teammates! Thank you @Dodgers for the best opportunity i could ever hope for! Champs forever!
— Kevin Kiermaier (@KKiermaier39) November 1, 2024
Kiermaier was part of several playoff teams in his career, including the 2020 Tampa Bay Rays that fell short to the Dodgers in the World Series.
He spent 10 of his 12 seasons with the Rays before joining the Blue Jays in free agency at the end of the 2022 campaign.
Kiermaier’s arrival to the Dodgers reunited him with president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman, who drafted the outfielder in 2010 as general manager of the Rays.
Kiermaier was a four-time Gold Glove Award winner and batted .246/.304/.402 with 170 doubles, 60 triples, 95 home runs, 378 RBI and 132 stolen bases in 1,159 games.
Kevin Kiermaier: Dodgers trade ‘pumped life into me’
Kiermaier said at the time of the trade that he felt rejuvenated after joining the Dodgers. The Blue Jays, who Kiermaier began the season with, finished last in the American League East.
Prior to acquiring him at the trade deadline, the Dodgers reportedly had interest in signing Kiermaier before he returned to the Blue Jays on a one-year deal last offseason.
