The Los Angeles Dodgers received a stellar start from Yoshinobu Yamamoto and big swings by Tommy Edman, Teoscar Hernández and Freddie Freeman to come away with a 4-2 win over the New York Yankees in Game 2 of the World Series.

Edman put the Dodgers ahead in the second inning by continuing his remarkable postseason run with another home run. He later hit a double to finish the night 2-for-4.

“Trying to just kind of ride the wave,” Edman said after the game. “It’s been nice to have one of my hot streaks come during the playoffs. Baseball, obviously you go through ups and downs.

“I actually ended the season on a pretty cold streak. So looking forward to the postseason, it was like, ‘All right, I’m going to get hot soon.’ Fortunately, it happened.”

Juan Soto’s solo home run tied the game in the third inning, but the Dodgers immediately responded in the bottom half to take a decided lead.

Mookie Betts’ two-out single set the table for Hernández to launch his first home run of the World Series and third this October.

Freeman made it back-to-back home runs that extended the Dodgers’ lead to 4-1. It also extended Freeman’s streak to four World Series games in a row with a homer.

Yamamoto held the Yankees to just one run over 6.1 innings in what was his longest start since completing seven frames against the Yankees on June 7.

Blake Treinen labored in the ninth inning as he allowed a run before being removed with two outs and the bases loaded. Alex Vesia needed all of one pitch to finish out the win.

Shohei Ohtani injured in Dodgers’ win

While there was excitement in the Dodgers taking a 2-0 series lead, it may have come at a significant cost as Shohei Ohtani suffered a left shoulder subluxation.

Ohtani is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Sunday, but the Dodgers already were expressing optimism because of range of motion and strength tests.
