The MLB Players Association (MLBPA) announced finalists for the 2024 Players Choice Awards, which are especially distinguished as they are chosen through a vote of their peers.

The Los Angeles Dodgers only had Shohei Ohtani place among the top three for any of the categories, as he is up for Player of the Year and the National League Outstanding Player Award.

Max Fried, Rhys Hoskins, Steven Kwan, Pablo López are finalists for the Marvin Miller Man of the Year Award, which is given to the player “whose leadership most inspires others to higher levels of achievement.”

The award, which comes with a $25,000 grant to the charity or cause of the winner’s choice, is named in honor of the MLBPA’s first full-time executive director, who served from 1966-1982.

Finalists for the Curt Flood Award are Scott Sanderson and Dave Winfield. The honor is given to the person “who in the image of Flood demonstrated a selfless, longtime devotion to the Players Association and advancement of Players’ rights.”

The Philanthropist of the Year Award was included in the Players Choice Awards voting for the first time this year. This award is given to the Player who “best demonstrates an altruistic spirit and positive social impact beyond the diamond.”

Hoskins, Brent Suter and Jose Trevinos are finalists for Philanthropist of the Year. The winner will receive a $25,000 grant to the charity or cause of his choice, and the two runners-up will receive $5,000 grants to their chosen nonprofit.

The Players Choice Awards were established in 1992. This year’s winners will be announced during the Fox MLB pregame show before Game 2 of the World Series.
