Dodgers News: Shohei Ohtani Among 2024 Players Choice Awards Finalists

Shohei Ohtani put together a record-breaking first season with the Los Angeles Dodgers that most anticipate is going to earn him the 2024 National League MVP Award.

Ohtani also figures to take home other hardware for his personal success, as he’s a nominee for the NL Hank Aaron Award that is presented annually to most outstanding regular season offensive performer in each League.

Ohtani additionally is among the seven Dodgers who are up for the 2024 All-MLB Team and also was just named among the Players Choice Awards finalists.

Since 1992, the Players Choice Awards have recognized outstanding on- and off-field performances on an annual basis. Finalists and winners are chosen through a vote of among active players.

The 2024 winners will be announced during the Fox pregame show ahead of Game 2 of the World Series on Saturday.

Players Choice Awards select one winner each for the Player of the Year, Marvin Miller Man of the Year, Curt Flood Award and Philanthropist of the Year.

NL and American League winners are selected for the Outstanding Player Award, Outstanding Pitcher Award, Outstanding Rookie Award and Comeback Player.

Ohtani won the AL Outstanding Player Award for 2023.

Player of the Year

Ohtani hit .310/.390/.646 with 38 doubles, seven triples, 54 home runs, 134 runs scored, 130 RBI, 59 stolen bases and a 181 wRC+ as the Dodgers’ designated hitter this season.

That has him under consideration for the best player performance in 2024.

New York Yankees’ Aaron Judge and Kansas City Royals All-Star Bobby Witt Jr. are finalists for Player of the Year as well.

NL Outstanding Player

Much like with the MVP Award, Ohtani figures to be in good position to earn recognition as the top NL performer in the Players Choice Awards.

New York Mets’ Francisco Lindor and fellow DH Marcell Ozuna of the Atlanta Braves make up Ohtani’s competition for NL Outstanding Player.

Ohtani led the NL this season in runs, home runs, RBI, slugging percentage, on-base plus slugging (1.036) and total bases (411).
