The Los Angeles Dodgers started the National League Championship Series with a resounding 9-0 win against the New York Mets behind a dominant performance from Jack Flaherty and bevy of timely hitting.
Max Muncy’s two-out RBI single in the first inning put the Dodgers up 2-0 and ensured they didn’t squander a bases-loaded opportunity against Kodai Senga. The right-hander struggled in just his third start of the year and was removed after giving up an RBI base hit to Shohei Ohtani with one out in the second inning.
After Flaherty stranded a pair of runners in the fourth inning, Tommy Edman extended the Dodgers’ lead in the bottom half with his line-drive RBI single.

Ohtani’s second hit of the game plated another run in the inning and Freddie Freeman added an RBI single as well. Ohtani improved to 6-for-8 in the postseason with runners on base.
“We’re better when we get guys on with Shohei up to bat,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said after the Game 1 win.
“Obviously when guys are in scoring position there might be a little bit more focus. But I think right now he’s in a good spot. Like I said that last series, I thought he chased it a little bit, but I think tonight he got back into his hitting zone and some good things happened. And even one of his outs was close to being a homer.”

After the seven strong innings from Flaherty, the Dodgers received one frame each from Daniel Hudson and Ben Casparius. Hudson worked around some traffic while Casparius retired the side in order.
