2024 NLDS: Michael Grove Makes Dodgers Postseason Roster Against Padres

The Los Angeles Dodgers postseason roster for their 2024 National League Division Series matchup against the San Diego Padres features 13 pitchers and 13 position players, with one minor surprise.

While the Dodgers were debating between 12 or 13 pitchers on the team, they opted to keep the extra arm over the additional bat, as expected.

That extra pitcher spot went to Michael Grove while Joe Kelly was left off the roster. The decision was likely made to add some additional length to their bullpen if necessary, but still comes as a surprise as Grove did not finish the season with the team.

Freddie Freeman (sprained right ankle) and Miguel Rojas (left adductor tear) are both active despite dealing with respective injuries throughout the past week. Things have been trending up for Freeman and Rojas, and there hadn’t been any indication neither would be available come Game 1.

Kevin Kiermiaer was left off the Dodgers postseason roster and he likely only would have been an option had Freeman or Rojas been dealing with more significant injuries. If the Dodgers had less confidence in either of them playing potentially five games, Kiermaier could have snuck on over a reliever.

A few of the players who did not make the team will stay travel with the Dodgers as part of their taxi squad in case of injury, while more will report to Camelback Ranch to continue working out and stay ready in case they get added later in the postseason. That stay ready group should include Tony Gonsolin, who is continuing his rehab but could be an option later on.

The Dodgers have six players on the 26-man roster who will be appearing in their first postseason game, including Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Andy Pages, Anthony Banda, Edgardo Henriquez and Landon Knack.
