Miguel Rojas Exits Dodgers Vs. Padres Game Early With Groin Tightness

The Los Angeles Dodgers have dealt with the injury bug often during the 2024 season, which has affected both their position players and pitchers.

While things have been trending up for the position player side with a mostly healthy club, Miguel Rojas became the latest player to suffer an injury.

While rounding third base in the fourth inning of their game against the Padres, Rojas appeared to suffer a lower body injury. He stayed in the game after talking with Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and head trainer Thomas Albert.

However, in the top of the fifth inning, Rojas was replaced by Andy Pages, who took over in center field with Tommy Edman moving to shortstop.

The Dodgers later announced Rojas left the game with left-groin tightness.

Prior to exiting the game, Rojas was 0-for-1 with a walk. He also made a highlight defensive play in the second inning of the game.

Overall this season, he’s hit .283 with six home runs, 36 runs batted in, 41 runs scored while posting a .747 on-base plus slugging.

Considering he stayed in the game, the injury seems unlikely to be a long-term issue, but given the schedule, it could cause him to miss some of the postseason if he doesn’t recover quickly.

Miguel Rojas honored as Roy Campanella Award winner

Prior to the game, the Dodgers honored Rojas on the field as the 19th winner of their Roy Campanella Award, which is annually given to the Los Angeles Dodgers player who best exemplifies the spirit and leadership of the late Hall of Fame catcher.

The honor was voted upon by Dodgers uniformed personnel and he was presented with the award by Campanella’s daughter, Joni Campanella Roan, and his grandson, Cari Bell.

Rojas becomes the 14th different Dodger to win the Campanella Award, and it’s just the fifth instance of a player 35 years or older taking home the honor.
