Recap: 5-Run 4th inning Powers Dodgers To Win Vs. Marlins

The Los Angeles Dodgers got back in the win column after an embarrassing loss to the Miami Marlins on Tuesday, coming back with a 8-4 victory to even up the series.

Scoring just eight runs ended the Dodgers streak of scoring nine runs at three consecutive games.

The Dodgers scored first in the second inning when Will Smith blasted his 19th home run of the season off the foul pole.

They went on to break the game open in the fourth inning, which started when Freddie Freeman singled with one out. Tommy Edman then slugged his sixth home run of the year, which have all come in the last eight games, to make the score 3-0.

The Dodgers weren’t done scoring there as Smith reached on an error and Andy Pages singled to set the stage for a Kiké Hernández three-run homer. It was Hernández’s 10th homer of the season and capped off the five-run inning.

Chris Taylor singled home two more runs in the eighth inning with the bases loaded and two outs against former teammate Michael Petersen.

Shohei Ohtani also stole his 49th base of the season in the first inning, placing him just one stolen base and two home runs away from a 50-50 season.

Landon Knack was on the mound for the Dodgers and turned in a fantastic start, bouncing back from his last outing and keeping the Marlins off the board for five innings. He allowed just two hits and struck out seven while adding two walks.

Knack faced some trouble in the first when Xavier Edwards singled to start the game, stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error from Will Smith. However, Knack came back to strand Edwards, ending the inning with a strikeout of Jake Burger.

The Marlins only got one more runner into scoring position, which came in the fifth on a walk and single, but Knack added another strikeout to get out of the inning. They went 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position against Knack.

Joe Kelly and Michael Kopech each pitched a scoreless inning. Brent Honeywell pitched the ninth, allowing a run on a sacrifice fly before finishing off the game.

Dodgers tie franchise record for pitchers used

Zach Logue entered the game in the seventh inning after being called up earlier in the day. With his appearance, he helped the Dodgers tie a franchise record for most pitchers used in a single season at 39. The 2021 and 2023 Dodgers also share the record, but there’s still time this season for the record to be broken.

Unfortunately for Logue, his day did not go anywhere near as planned or hoped. He allowed two singles and a double, giving up two runs without recording an out before he exited the game.

Blake Treinen took over and allowed the inherited runner to score, which was credited to Logue. Treinen went on to get out of the inning without allowing another run.
