After earning an extra-innings win in the Freeway Series opener, the Los Angeles Dodgers now look to complete a sweep of the Los Angeles Angels at Angel Stadium.
Bobby Miller gets the start for the Dodgers, who is coming off a promising start against the Baltimore Orioles, He allowed three runs on two hits and collected three strikeouts in five innings of work.
The performance followed one of Miller’s best starts of the season, when he racked up nine strikeouts over six innings of three-run ball against the Tampa Bay Rays.
While Miller has been more effective lately, he is pitching through a left knee injury. “It was just the left knee. It’s something I’ve been dealing with for a while,” Miller explained after his start against the Orioles.
“Our training staff has done an outstanding job of keeping me healthy and keeping me out there, so I’m really thankful for them.”
Miller enters with a 2-3 record, 7.25 ERA, 6.43 FIP and 1.66 WHIP in 44.2 innings over 10 starts this season.
The Angels counter with Griffin Canning, who looks to bounce back from a loss to the Detroit Tigers. He gave up five hits and three runs with four strikeouts against four walks in five innings pitched.
Canning has struggled mightily this year, going 4-12 with a 5.19 ERA, 5.17 FIP and 1.39 WHIP in 144 innings pitched across 27 games (26 starts). The right-hander has yielded an American League-worst 83 earned runs.
