Tensions flared in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 8-4 win over the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday as Jack Flaherty and Randy Arozarena twice exchanged words with each other.

The first instance was after Flaherty hit Arozarena with a pitch in the second inning. The right-hander then shouted in his direction after retiring the outfielder in the third, which prompted both benches to briefly clear.

“I mean, nothing,” Flaherty answered when asked what happened between him and Arozarena. “Look, I respect Randy as a player. He’s been really good in this league for as long as he’s been here.

“I mean, there’s no reason for me to him in that position, and he took exception to it. So I got nothing but respect for guys who are really good in this league. So we said what we had to say, boys jumped out of the dugout and we move on.”

When asked what he said to Arozarena after flying out in the third, Flaherty declined to reveal any details. “It doesn’t matter, that’ll stay between the lines,” he began.

“But there’s nothing, we really said what we had to say, it’s all good. I got nothing but respect for the guy.”

As Arozarena walked to left field for the bottom of the inning, he yelled at the Dodgers dugout more and made multiple hand gestures toward them. Teoscar Hernández and Arozarena spoke between innings at one point as well, though it’s unclear what the nature of their conversation was.

Arozarena was loudly booed by Dodgers fans in his final three at-bats, but nothing else came of the incidents between him and Flaherty.

Jack Flaherty back on track

After struggling in his previous two outings, Flaherty turned a solid outing against the Mariners. He allowed just two runs (one earned) on five hits and collected five strikeouts in 5.2 innings pitched.
