The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled Justin Wrobleski from Triple-A Oklahoma City and placed Tyler Glasnow on the 15-day injured list with right elbow tendinitis.

Wrobleski gets the start against the St. Louis Cardinals, a decision that was made to provide Glasnow with some extra rest. That, of course, turned out to be more than extra rest as he heads to the IL.

Wrobleski burst onto the scene this season as a fast-rising prospect in the Dodgers farm system, which earned him a call-up to the Major League level. He impressed upon being thrust into the rotation at the start of July, going 0-1 with a 4.05 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 15 strikeouts in 20 innings pitched across four starts.

Wrobleski completed at least five innings in three of his outings, providing the rotation with some stability at a time when they didn’t have much of that.

He was optioned after the Dodgers acquired Jack Flaherty from the Detroit Tigers, but it was not a decision the Dodgers took lightly due to Wrobleski’s performance at the Major League level.

“It was tough. It was tough,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said of the decision at the time. “I think we just wanted to see a little bit more from River. But Justin did a fantastic job, and it wouldn’t surprise me to see him back up here at some point.”

The Dodgers also had Bobby Miller join the club in case they needed another pitcher on Saturday due to Glasnow’s injury. However, Roberts would not get into specifics on what Glasnow was dealing with.

Glasnow has been the ace of the Dodgers rotation this season, posting a 3.49 ERA, 2.63 xERA and 2.91 FIP with a 0.95 WHIP in 134 innings, which set his career-high by 14 after throwing 120 last year.

In addition, Glasnow has struck out 32.2% of hitters he faced this season while walking just 6.7%.

It’s unclear how long he will be out.
