Dodgers Vs. Brewers Game Preview: Gavin Stone Aims To Extend Winning Streak

The Los Angeles Dodgers powered their way in the series opener against the Milwaukee Brewers, and now turn to Gavin Stone to continue their winning ways.

Entering Tuesday, the Dodgers hold a 2.5-game lead in the National League West. They became the first NL team to reach the 70-win mark and are riding a four-game winning streak.

Stone makes his 22nd start of the regular season, having posted a 3.71 ERA, 4.06 FIP and 1.31 WHIP, with a .264 batting average allowed. The 25-year-old had been an anchor in the Dodgers’ rotation before recent signs of regression.

Since June 2, Stone owns a 4.25 ERA, 4.56 FIP and 1.42 WHIP in 11 starts. Opposing hitters have a .286 batting average during that stretch.

Earlier in the year, the right-hander had been an arm the Dodgers could count on to give them five or six innings, but since June, Stone has reached the sixth in just three of his 11 outings.

Stone faces a Brewers lineup that ranks seventh in Major League Baseball against right-handed pitchers, owning the second-highest on-base percentage in those matchups.

Colin Rea starts for Milwaukee in what’s been a productive sixth big league season. He’s posted a 3.38 ERA and 1.18 WHIP in 122.1 innings across 22 games (19 starts).

Rea is current on one of his best stretches of the season, totaling a 2.90 ERA over his last seven games (six starts).

In his most recent outing, Rea struck out nine batters over seven shutout innings against the Atlanta Braves on Aug. 6. Using a six-pitch mix, he’ll showcase a sinker, cut-fastball, four-seam fastball, sweeper, splitter and curveball.

Rea’s sweeper is among the best is baseball, a pitch he’ll use to right-handed hitters at a solid clip.

The Dodgers’ offense has been solid as of late, banking on their usual power numbers to carry a big load, while receiving some properly-time base hits to tack on runs. With Mookie Betts back in the lineup, their unit in all matchups is much more threatening.
