The 2024 MLB All-Star Game was held at the Texas Rangers’ Globe Life Field last month, which saw the American League earn a 5-3 win over the National League.
Looking ahead to future installments of the exhibition game, the 95th Midsummer Classic will be hosted by the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park next year.
MLB commissioner Rob Manfred previously announced that the Philadelphia Phillies will host the 2026 All-Star Game at Citizens Bank Park.
After that, Manfred expects the final two All-Star Games under his tenure as MLB commissioner to be hosted by the Toronto Blue Jays and Chicago Cubs, according to Evan Drellich of The Athletic:
The final two All-Star Games that Manfred expects he will award in his time as commissioner are in 2027 and 2028, and the Blue Jays and the Cubs appear prime candidates to host.
Manfred wants to award an All-Star Game to the Blue Jays and Cubs in part because it has been a while since they last hosted one:
“With respect to those two years, I am strongly influenced by two things,” Manfred said. “One, when did you last have a game? Toronto stacks up pretty well on that variable. I think Chicago is older.”
Manfred also believes that Toronto, Chicago and other All-Star Game host cities are well-equipped to handle all of the festivities:
“The city being willing to step up on those issues is the other big variable,” Manfred said. “Our All-Star (events), what’s become most of the week, we need certain facilities and certain kinds of support in terms of security.”
The Cubs lasted hosted the MLB All-Star Game in 1990 and the Blue Jays did so the following year.
Wrigley Field has been the site of the MLB All-Star Game on three occasions (1947, 1962 and 1990), whereas Rogers Centre has only hosted the event once (1991).
MLB All-Star Game uniforms changing?
The 2024 MLB All-Star Game was the fourth consecutive in which players wore generic AL and NL uniforms with just their respective team logos on them. These have been unpopular among fans, and Manfred hinted that players may revert back to wearing their team uniforms for next year’s Midsummer Classic.
