The 2024 MLB trade deadline is July 30 at 3 p.m. PT, which represents the final opportunity for teams to deal players on their 40-man rosters to each other.
Players can still be placed and claimed on outright waivers after that point, but trades will no longer be permitted.
However, Minor Leaguers not on 40-man rosters can still be traded after the July 30 deadline, with the caveat that they must be in an organization by the end of Aug. 31 in order to be eligible for the postseason.
For many years, the trade deadline was July 31 at 1 p.m. PT, but MLB commissioner Rob Manfred has the authority to move the day up or back in an effort to avoid conflicting with games.
Before the 2019 season, July 31 was referred to as the non-waiver trade deadline, meaning players could be traded after that date if they first cleared revocable waivers. However, the August waiver trade period was removed in favor of a single deadline.

Although this year’s MLB trade deadline is at 6 p.m. ET, there is the potential for deals to be completed after the buzzer so long as they were submitted to the league office prior to the cutoff point.
Trades that already happened
The Tampa Bay Rays have been the most active seller and are responsible for three of the biggest trades so far.
Tampa Bay most notably sent All-Star outfielder Randy Arozarena to the Seattle Mariners in exchange for two prospects and a player to be named later. They also dealt Zach Eflin to the Baltimore Orioles and All-Star third baseman Isaac Paredes to the Chicago Cubs.
The New York Yankees acquired Jazz Chisholm Jr. from the Miami Marlins in exchange for three prospects, and the Philadelphia Phillies have added the likes of Austin Hays and Carlos Estévez from the Orioles and Los Angeles Angels, respectively.
The Dodgers, White Sox and St. Louis Cardinals completed a three-team trade on Monday that involved Erick Fedde, Tommy Pham, Michael Kopech, Tommy Edman, Miguel Vargas and multiple Minor Leaguers.
Players who could be moved at MLB trade deadline
While several notable players have already been moved, there is expected to be a flurry of activity in the hours leading up to the July 30 trade deadline.
Garrett Crochet (White Sox); Andrew Chafin, Jack Flaherty and Tarik Skubal (Detroit Tigers); Tyler Anderson (Angels), Dylan Floro (Washington Nationals), Mason Miller (Oakland Athletics), Tanner Scott (Marlins) and Pete Fairbanks (Rays) are just a few of the pitchers who could change teams.
Yandy Díaz and Brandon Lowe (Rays), Paul DeJong, Tommy Pham and Luis Robert Jr. (White Sox), Brent Rooker (Athletics), Tommy Edman (St. Louis Cardinals), Luis Rengifo and Taylor Ward (Angels), and Lane Thomas (Nationals) are some position players who could be traded.
Dodgers trade deadline needs
With multiple holes still to fill, the Dodgers are expected to be one of the most aggressive teams at the trade deadline.
They have been linked to Crochet, Skubal and Flaherty in their quest to acquire an impact starting pitcher, though it remains to be seen if any of them will be moved.
L.A. also wants to add a power-hitting outfielder, with Robert perhaps the biggest bat still available.
