The Los Angeles Dodgers activated Tyler Glasnow off the 15-day injured list and optioned Landon Knack to Triple-A Oklahoma City prior to Wednesday’s game against the San Francisco Giants.
Glasnow had been on the injured list since July 9, but his stint was backdated to July 6. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and the right-hander both downplayed concern over the lower back tightness and noted the All-Star break provided added reason to exercise caution.
Glasnow was eligible to return during the weekend series against the Boston Red Sox but the Dodgers instead started Gavin Stone, Justin Wrobleski and James Paxto, respectively, in those games.
River Ryan then started Monday and Knack faced the Giants in the second game of the series at Dodger Stadium.
The extra time off afforded Glasnow an opportunity to face batters in a simulated game last week. He threw roughly 60 pitches last Friday and faced Jason Heyward, Gavin Lux, James Outman and Minor Leaguer Jefferson Valladares.
“Really good,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said of Glasnow’s simulated game. “Velocity was good, the stuff was great. Lot of swing and miss. He said he felt good, back was good.”
Glasnow is 8-5 with a 3.47 ERA and 0.93 WHIP in 18 starts this season. He ranks fourth overall with 146 strikeouts and earned a first career All-Star Game selection this year.
Although he could not participate because of the back injury, Glasnow traveled to Globe Life Field to support Teoscar Hernández in the Home Run Derby and Dodgers teammates who did play in the 2024 MLB All-Star Game.
Dodgers option Landon Knack
Knack recorded his second win of the season on Tuesday night, tossing five innings of one-run baseball against the Giants. Knack collected six strikeouts as he improved to 2-2 on the season.
He owns a 3.07 ERA with 42 strikeouts in 44 innings in nine games (eight starts) for the Dodgers. The former second-round pick out of the East Tennessee State University was unlikely to stick around in the rotation with Glasnow back, Clayton Kershaw expected to return on Thursday and additional trade help likely coming down the line.
