Shohei Ohtani has been nothing short of remarkable in his first season with the Los Angeles Dodgers and added onto that with a towering home run at Dodger Stadium on Sunday night.
Ohtani’s latest home run, his National League-leading 30th of the season, was 116.7 mph off the bat and traveled 473 feet as it sailed over the pavilion in right-center field.
Clayton Kershaw was on the ESPN Sunday Night Baseball broadcast when Ohtani launched his solo blast and remarked he had never seen a player hit a ball that far in the Dodgers’ home ballpark.
“I’m speechless,” Kershaw said.
He further noted the more common occurrence is for a right-handed hitter to pull one deep into the pavilion.

Ohtani’s home run is the longest at Dodger Stadium since Giancarlo Stanton hit one 475 feet in 2015 as a member of the Miami Marlins. That made Stanton the fourth player to ever hit a home run out of Dodger Stadium.
Ohtani now has seven home runs this season of at least 450 feet, which is most in the Majors. Earlier this season he tied Joc Pederson for most 440-plus foot homers in Dodger Stadium under the Statcast Era (since 2015) with four.
Ohtani now holds that record with five such dingers and he’s broken another tie with Pederson for the Dodgers record of most home runs of at least 440 feet in a single season with eight, also since Statcast data tracking began.
Moreover, Ohtani is the only player in MLB history with multiple home runs of at least 450 feet at Dodger Stadium in the Statcast Era as well.
