Dodgers News: Tony Cingrani Placed On 10-Day Injured List To Begin 2019 Season

The Los Angeles Dodgers officially placed left-hander Tony Cingrani on the 10-day injured list to begin the season as he continues to recover from an impingement in his left shoulder. His stint is retroactive to March 25, making Cingrani eligible to be reinstated on Thursday, April 4.

Though, Cingrani did not break camp with the Dodgers and likely faces a lengthy recovery. He suffered the injury roughly two weeks ago and was immediately shut down, having received a cortisone injection.

It’s the same reoccurring shoulder issue that plagued Cingrani for much of his 2018 season, in which he was limited to only 30 appearances. He went 1-2 with a 4.76 ERA, 2.32 FIP and 1.10 WHIP in those games.

The 29-year-old had impressed early on in Spring Training this year, allowing three hits and two walks while collecting three strikeouts over four scoreless innings of work. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts initially was optimistic Cingrani was putting the injury trouble behind him.

Cingrani joins fellow southpaws Clayton Kershaw and Rich Hill on the injured list rather than being included on the Opening Day roster. The Dodgers’ bullpen consists of only two left-handers in Scott Alexander and Caleb Ferguson.

Cingrani’s injury initially created an opportunity for Julio Urias, though the young left-hander was moved into starting rotation as a result of Hill’s left knee strain.
