Former Los Angeles Dodgers All-Star catcher and two-time World Series champion Mike Scioscia was inducted into the Albuquerque Professional Baseball Hall of Fame during a pregame ceremony at Isotopes Park as part of Dukes Retro Night.

Scioscia was selected by the Dodgers with the 19th overall pick in the 1976 MLB Draft and played two seasons with Albuquerque from 1979-1980. Over 195 games with the then-Dukes, he hit .335 with 45 doubles and 101 RBI.

Scioscia then went on to play the next 13 seasons with the Dodgers. In 1,441 big league games, he batted .259/.344/.356 with 198 doubles, 12 triples, 68 home runs and 446 RBI.

Scioscia won two World Series titles (1981 and 1988) as a player and was twice named a National League All-Star (1989-1990).

After retiring during the 1994 season, Scioscia began his coaching career in the Dodgers organization. He received his first managerial opportunity with the Albuquerque Dukes in 1999, guiding the team to a 65-74 record.

Scioscia was then hired by then Anaheim Angels, who he would serve as manager from 2000-2018. He led the team to a 1650-1428 record (.536), which is good for the 20th most managerial wins in MLB history.

Scioscia propelled the Angels to 12 winning seasons during that span, including six American League West division titles and the 2002 World Series championship.

Scioscia became the first manager to make the playoffs in six of his first 10 seasons and was twice named the AL Manager of the Year (2002, 2009). He is the Angels’ all-time leader in wins, games managed and division titles won.

Mike Scioscia served as Team USA manager

Scioscia managed Team USA during the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics, leading them to a Silver medal. The United States fell to Japan, 2-0, in the championship game.
