Recap: Shohei Ohtani Leads Offense, Dodgers Bullpen Shuts Down White Sox

The Los Angeles Dodgers clinched a series win over the Chicago White Sox thanks to their superstar bats and a fantastic performance from the bullpen in a 4-3 game.

Shohei Ohtani started the scoring with a leadoff home run, his 24th of the season to lead the National League. With that, he also tied a Dodgers’ record with an RBI in nine straight games.

But after following behind early, the Dodgers had to battle back. Ohtani walked to start the third, trailing by two runs, and Freddie Freeman tied the game with a two-run shot.

The Dodgers went on to take the lead in the fourth inning, and they never looked back. Gavin Lux worked a walk and Miguel Vargas singled to begin a rally.

With two outs, Ohtani singled home Lux to make it a 4-3 game. Those were the only runs the Dodgers scored, but it proved to be enough.

Bobby Miller’s struggles continued, forcing the Dodgers to essentially utilize a bullpen game.

Miller went just two innings, allowing three runs on four hits with three walks to only one strikeout. He threw 38 pitches in the first inning, and 22 in the second inning, finishing his night with 60 total and just 33 strikes.

Miller started the game with a walk to Tommy Pham, and that was followed by a two-run homer from Andrew Benintendi to give the White Sox the lead.

Luis Robert Jr. followed with a single, and he scored on a double from Eloy Jiménez to increase their lead. After allowing three runs in the first, Miller was finally able to record his first out, and eventually escaped the inning as the Dodgers had their bullpen starting to work.

Miller went back out for the second inning and was greeted by a single. However, he followed that up by getting a double play.

Yet the inning still proved to be a challenge as he walked Pham once again, along with Benintendi, to put two runners on before getting Robert to ground out.

Following Miller, Michael Petersen worked two scoreless innings, Yohan Ramírez worked 0.2 innings without a run, thanks to some help from Anthony Banda, who recorded three outs.

Blake Treinen worked 1.1 innings, getting the Dodgers out of a jam and pitching the seventh inning scoreless. Daniel Hudson took the eighth and worked a perfect frame.

Evan Phillips pitched the ninth, recording his 13th save in as many attempts.

Dodgers interested in pair of White Sox stars

This series has presented the Dodgers with the opportunity to get a close up look at Garrett Crochet and Robert, who both figure to be available ahead of the trade deadline. The Dodgers reportedly have interest in both, but the package to acquire either would be significant.

The two clubs completed a trade last year, so that familiarity between them may bode well for a potential deal.
