Dodgers Roster: J.P. Feyereisen Recalled; Michael Petersen’s Contract Selected

The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled J.P. Feyereisen and selected the contract of Michael Petersen from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Michael Grove were placed on the 15-day injured list to make room on the active roster. Joe Kelly was transferred to the 60-day injured list to make room on the 40-man roster for Petersen.

Feyereisen has appeared in nine games for the Dodgers this season, allowing six runs in nine innings, but he threw 7.2 scoreless innings in the month of May before being optioned to add fresh arms to the bullpen.

Feyereisen is now in his fourth stint with the Dodgers this year after beginning the season on the Opening Day roster.

He is in his fourth Major League season, having stints with the Milwaukee Brewers (2020-21), Tampa Bay Rays (2021-22) and Dodgers (2024), and he is a combined 8-5 with a 2.65 ERA and 93 strikeouts in 98.2 innings.

The 31-year-old is in his first year back from right shoulder surgery that prevented him from pitching during the 2023 season. The Dodgers acquired Feyereisen in a December 2022 trade that sent Jeff Belge to the Tampa Bay Rays.

Petersen was signed by the Dodgers to a Minor League deal in the offseason with an invite to Spring Training, and he’s impressed thus far in the Minors.

The hard-throwing right-hander has thrown 22.1 innings with a 1.61 ERA, allowing just four runs on 10 hits with 31 strikeouts and a 0.72 WHIP.

Petersen has pitched in the Minor Leagues for eight seasons, tossing 263 innings in 167 games (18 starts) with a 10-11 record and 4.04 ERA. The Middlesex, England native was originally drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 17th round of the 2015 MLB Draft out of Riverside Community College.

If Petersen gets into a game, the 30-year-old would be making his MLB debut. He also pitched for Great Britain in the 2023 World Baseball Classic.

J.P. Feyereisen pitched with ‘conviction’

During his stretch of not allowing an earned run in May, Feyereisen was praised by Dodgers manager Dave Roberts for pitching with conviction.

While he did everything necessary to stay on the roster, he was part of a numbers game and had options left, which made him the odd man out in the bullpen for the time being.
