Dodgers Injury Updates: Bobby Miller, Kyle Hurt & Clayton Kershaw

The Los Angeles Dodgers have dealt with numerous injuries to their pitchers this season, but have still managed to have a top-5 ERA in the Majors as a staff with both the bullpen and rotation clicking on most nights.

They could also soon find themselves with additional reinforcements to make their staff that much better.

Bobby Miller has been progressing well in his rehab process as he has already made two rehab starts. A dip in velocity from his last outing did raise some eyebrows, but Miller doesn’t seem concerned about it.

Kyle Hurt had a limited stint with the Dodgers before he dealt with right shoulder inflammation that landed him on the injured list back on April 17.

Clayton Kershaw continues to recover from left shoulder surgery he received last November and was noted as being ahead of schedule as of Sunday.

Friday will bring good news for all three, as Miller and Hurt will make rehab appearances with Triple-A Oklahoma City and Kershaw will throw a couple of simulated innings, according to Bill Plunkett of the Southern California News Group:

Friday is rehab roundup day for #Dodgers pitchers. Bobby Miller is scheduled to make another rehab start, this time for OKC. Kyle Hurt is scheduled to pitch in that game as well. Meanwhile, Clayton Kershaw will throw 2 simulated innings at Rancho Cucamonga (not in their game)

Miller’s start on Friday will be the third start of his rehab assignment, and it will be interesting to see how the situation with his fastball velocity develops. The Dodgers could decide to activate him after that, or have him make another start, depending on how he comes out of it.

The news about Hurt comes as a pleasant surprise, mostly because there hasn’t been a lot of news that has come out regarding his rehab.

Hurt was one of the earliest casualties the Dodgers suffered in their bullpen, and he has been out of action for a majority of the season. He found good success with the Dodgers in his limited time, giving up one earned run in 6.2 innings.

Clayton Kershaw is ahead of schedule

Kershaw two simulated innings with Rancho Cucamonga will be his second simulated game after his first one at Dodger Stadium earlier in the week. Kershaw continues to decline setting a timetable for his return, but his return at some point this season is a pretty safe bet with the way his rehab has been going.
