Freddie Freeman: Dodgers Benefited From Rain Out

The Los Angeles Dodgers’ 2024 season reached a low point earlier this week when they dropped their fifth consecutive game after being swept by the Cincinnati Reds.

The Dodgers were originally supposed to continue their road trip with a Memorial Day matchup against the New York Mets, but the game was postponed and rescheduled as part of a doubleheader on Tuesday.

The Dodgers mounted a comeback victory in the first game and then blanked the Mets in the nightcap to take both contests.

Freddie Freeman believes the team benefited from the unexpected day off and saw it as an opportunity to reset, via Bill Plunkett of the Southern California News Group:

“A lot of us took that and kind of ran with that one,” Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman said of the pause that seemed to refresh. “Being able to get off your feet for a whole day was kind of nice.”

Freeman played in both games of the doubleheader and went a combined 5-for-8 with one double, one home run and three RBI.

While the seven-time All-Star was instrumental in both wins, he credited the Dodgers pitching staff for helping the team get back on track:

“The reason we won both games today was because of our pitching,” Freeman acknowledged. “Tyler and Gavin and the bullpen were absolutely phenomenal today.”

Dodgers pitching limited the Mets to two runs and seven hits in the doubleheader. Tyler Glasnow and Gavin Stone threw seven innings in their respective starts, and the bullpen combined to throw five scoreless frames.

The Dodgers will now look to complete a three-game sweep of the Mets when the teams finish their series on Wednesday afternoon.

Daniel Hudson silenced Mets fans by escaping jam for Dodgers

The Dodgers rallied to defeat the Mets, 5-2, in 10 innings to take the first game. After tying the score in the top of the ninth, Daniel Hudson was tasked with sending the contest to extra innings.

The right-hander initially ran into some trouble as he allowed two singles and a walk to load the bases with one out. He then fell behind in the count, 3-0, to Tyrone Taylor before getting him to pop out to Mookie Betts.

Hudson escaped the jam by getting Jeff McNeil to pop out to end the inning. He was noticeably pumped up walking off the mound and silenced the crowd with his finger.
