The Los Angeles Dodgers completed a doubleheader sweep of the New York Mets as they won the second game with a 3-0 shutout led by Gavin Stone.

The right-hander pitched seven shutout innings, giving up just three hits with no walks. He also struck out a career-high seven hitters.

It was the third time Stone has pitched seven innings in a game, and his second time in May. The 25-year-old has thrown at least six innings or more in six consecutive starts now as he cements himself into the Dodgers’ rotation.

Overall on the season, he’s thrown 57 innings with a 3.16 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 41 strikeouts.

The Dodgers offense was not great, but they were good enough to get the job done, which is more than they’ve done recently.

Will Smith started the scoring with a solo home run in the first inning. Smith was starting as the designated hitter for Shohei Ohtani, who sat out the second game to rest his hamstring.

Andy Pages singled to lead off the second inning, and he came around to score on a double from Miguel Rojas, giving the Dodgers a 2-0 lead. That proved to be the offense for the majority of the game.

However, it then proved to be the Miguel game as Miguel Vargas joined in with a solo home run in the sixth inning, his first of the season as he makes a case to stick around on the roster for the long-term.

Following Stone, Alex Vesia worked the eighth and ninth innings to close out the game.

Dodgers building winning streak

After losing five straight games coming into the series, the Dodgers have now won two straight and have a chance to sweep the Mets on Wednesday.

In the first game, the Dodgers were down late, but completed a comeback and won in extra innings.

James Paxton will be on the mound, pitching on normal rest, and he’ll face off against David Peterson.
