The Los Angeles Dodgers got back into the win column with a 5-2 extra-innings victory in the first game of Tuesday’s doubleheader against the New York Mets.

The Dodgers looked like they were headed for their sixth consecutive loss before their offense came alive late.

The starting pitching on both sides was very effective, which led to an uneventful first seven innings. Tyler Glasnow battled through some early command issues to deliver a strong seven inning performance that kept the Dodgers within striking distance.

He surrendered two hits in the third inning, including Francisco Lindor’s two-run homer, but cruised through the rest of his outing with relative ease.

Tylor Megill kept the Dodgers offense in check for seven innings, allowing only four baserunners and zero runs.

Bunting is underrated.

The Dodgers were happy to see him go and immediately took advantage of a struggling Mets bullpen. Freddie Freeman got the Dodgers’ first hit with a runner in scoring position with a RBI single to give L.A. their first run of the game.

Chris Taylor tied the game at 2-2 with an attempted safety squeeze play that turned into an RBI single after Adam Ottavino couldn’t make a play on the ball. That was their only run of the inning despite having two men on with no outs.

Daniel Hudson walked a tightrope in the bottom of the ninth to send the game to extras.

The Dodgers offense finally broke through in the 10th inning with a RBI single from Mookie Betts and a two-run home run from Freddie Freeman. Blake Treinen came into the game for the save and closed out the 5-2 victory.

Dodgers win both games of Tuesday’s doubleheader

The Dodgers finished up the second game of their doubleheader with a 3-0 victory against the Mets. They were only able to muster three runs against Mets starter José Quintana, but it was plenty thanks to a dominant outing from Gavin Stone and two innings from Alex Vesia out of the bullpen.

The Dodgers did not have to wait until the eighth inning to score their first run this time around as Will Smith quickly gave them a 1-0 lead with his seventh homer of the season in the first inning.

The following inning Andy Pages scored all the way from first base on a RBI double from Miguel Rojas who continues to be a pleasant surprise at the plate this season.

Miguel Vargas was back in the lineup for the first time in three games and showed off some of the pop he displayed in the Minor Leagues and gave the Dodgers a 3-0 lead with his solo home run in the sixth inning.

Stone threw seven scoreless innings, collected seven strikeouts and allowed just three hits. He has a 2.13 ERA, 26 strikeouts, and 1.06 WHIP in his last seven starts.
