Recap: Dodgers Losing Streak Reaches 3 Game; Drop 3rd Consecutive Series

The Los Angeles Dodgers lost their third consecutive game, 6-4, and dropped their series against the New York Mets, making that three consecutive series losses after losing four of six against the San Diego Padres and Washington Nationals.

Gavin Stone made the start and struggled with his command throughout the game as he ended up walking five over 3.1 innings while allowing two runs on four hits with one strikeout.

A walk to open the game from Brandon Nimmo led to him scoring after a stolen base and a double from Francisco Lindor, giving the Mets a 1-0 lead. The Dodgers came back to tie it in the bottom of the first when Freddie Freeman singled home Mookie Betts following his double.

A single and stolen base from Joey Wendle in the fourth led to another run scoring for the Mets when Starling Marte singled with one out. The Dodgers once again tied the game in the fifth when Max Muncy hit a sacrifice fly after Shohei Ohtani doubled and advanced to third.

The Mets put two runners on in the sixth inning with a walk and hit-by-pitch from Ryan Yarbrough before Ryan Brasier took over. Brasier was immediately greeted by Marte with a three-run homer to give the Mets a 5-2 lead.

The Dodgers attempted to rally in the bottom half of the sixth and loaded the bases. Freeman singled home two runs to cut the Mets’ lead to just one run, but Pete Alonso made a nice defensive play to take away the tying run from Max Muncy.

Freeman was one of the few bright spots for the Dodgers, which was encouraging as he’s been scuffling at the plate.

In the eighth, the Mets added another run against Evan Phillips when Marte reached on a throwing error from Betts. He stole second base and came around to score on a single from Lindor.

The Dodgers had another chance to tie or take the lead in the bottom of the eighth when they loaded the bases against Edwin Diaz, but Teoscar Hernández and Muncy both struck out. As a team, the Dodgers went 1-for-8 with six strikeouts in the game with the bases loaded.

Dodgers homestand struggles

This marks the first time the Dodgers have lost all three series in a single homestand since 2005, which was Jim Tracy’s final year managing the team when they went 71-91. The Dodgers also lost three home series in a row from Aug. 3-22, 2018, but that was across two homestands.

The Dodgers record this year now stands at 12-11 with a half game lead over the Padres in the National League West.
