Tampa Bay Rays Trade Rumors: Tyler Glasnow ‘Definitely’ Will Be Moved

Sonny Gray, Blake Snell and Yoshinobu Yamamoto are among the best available starting pitchers to sign in free agency, but other talented arms could possibly be had via trade as well. Among them is Tampa Bay Rays ace Tyler Glasnow, who has been limited by injuries in recent seasons.

Glasnow did not make his 2023 debut until May 27 due to a left oblique strain that was sustained in Spring Training. He otherwise was healthy the rest of the season, finishing 10-7 with a 3.53 ERA, 2.91 FIP, 1.08 WHIP and 12.2 strikeouts per nine over a career-high 120 innings pitched (21 starts).

Glasnow has one more year of team control before potentially becoming a free agent after the 2024 season. He is due to earn $25 million next year, which would be the largest single-season salary in Rays franchise history.

With that price tag likely being too steep for the small-market Rays, multiple executives think it is a lock Glasnow gets traded this offseason, per Mark Feinsand of MLB.com:

Lots of trade chatter about Tyler Glasnow this offseason. Two execs told me they believe Tampa Bay will “definitely” move its ace, who is set to earn $25 million in 2024.

— Mark Feinsand (@Feinsand) November 21, 2023

Glasnow is one of the most talented starting pitchers in all of baseball when healthy and figures to be of interest to teams looking to bolster their rotation.

However, interested clubs must take into consideration Glasnow’s injury concerns as he has only exceeded the 100-inning mark twice in his career. The right-hander’s high salary and limited team control could also be obstacles.

Dodgers linked to Tyler Glasnow

The Los Angeles Dodgers have already been linked to Glasnow, in addition to Milwaukee Brewers ace Corbin Burnes and Dylan Cease of the Chicago White Sox, who likewise are believed to be available via trade.

The Dodgers have the prospect capital and financial means to acquire Glasnow, and president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman’s history with the Rays could further help to facilitate a deal.
