The Los Angeles Dodgers’ season came to an end on Wednesday night as they were swept by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the National League Division Series.
The Dodgers have now lost six consecutive postseason games dating back to last year, when they were eliminated by the San Diego Padres in the NLDS. “I don’t know. I think we just didn’t play well. It’s as simple as that,” Chris Taylor said of the Dodgers’ playoff struggles.
“I don’t think there’s a magic answer. It’s not like, if we did this, we would’ve won. At the end of the day they played better than we did.
“When you get to this late in the season, usually the hot team win. They’re feeling good right now and playing their best baseball all year, I think. And we were probably playing the worst baseball we did all year.”
In each of the last two postseasons, the Dodgers had at least 15 more wins than their NLDS opponent during the regular season and also held the edge in head-to-head meetings.
“We went through ups and downs throughout the course of the year, and it seemed like a lot of our guys weren’t feeling the best when it counted,” Taylor explained.
“I don’t know if you can point to anything. There is a bit of a break there for us, and that could’ve played some part, but at the end of the day we just didn’t play well.”
Taylor did not start in any of the three NLDS games, but went 1-for-6 upon entering each contest off the bench.
Dodgers on the wrong side of MLB history
The Dodgers and Baltimore Orioles were among the teams to win at least 100 games this season, only to be swept by their opponent in the Division Series.
According to ESPN Stats and Info, it marked the first time in MLB postseason history that multiple 100-win teams were swept in a single year.
