The Los Angeles Dodgers fell behind to a sizable deficit early against the San Diego Padres, but rallied the next inning to take a lead they never lost.

Both teams were scoreless through the first two innings, but the Padres got to Tony Gonsolin in the third, scoring five runs. Damage was done in part by a Luis Campusano home run and a double by Fernando Tatis Jr.

Although many teams would’ve been in a mindset to move onto the next series on getaway day, the Dodgers came back in the fourth inning with an offensive explosion that started with a David Peralta RBI double.

Jason Heyward followed with another extra-base hit to drive in two more runs before Miguel Rojas singled with the bases loaded to cut the defecit to one run.

With the bases still full of Dodgers, Mookie Betts connected on a 3-0 pitch for a grand slam, giving the Dodgers an eight-run fourth inning and 8-3 lead.

However, the Dodgers’ offense wasn’t done producing as they went on to put up another crooked number in the sixth inning.

The inning started when Kiké Hernández hit his first home run since the Dodgers re-acquired him, L.A. then loaded the bases with a walk from James Outman, a double from Rojas and an intentional walk to Freddie Freeman.

Will Smith came through with an RBI single and Max Muncy followed with a two-run double. The Dodgers then scored their 13th run on a sacrifice fly from David Peralta to complete a six-run inning.

The Padres added two more runs, but the Dodgers pitching staff was able to hold the lead for 1 13-7 victory. Tony Gonsolin and Bryan Hudson didn’t have ideal days on the mound, but Joe Kelly did strike out the side in a scoreless inning.

Dodgers standout offensive day

The eight runs in the fourth inning marked the most scored during a single inning this season by the club. The previous mark was seven runs in the fifth inning agains the Colorado Rockies on April 3.

In addition, Betts’ grand slam was the Dodgers’ 11th of the season, tying the 2021 team for the club record. They are now the 18th team un MLB history with at least 11 grand slams in one season.
