The Los Angeles Dodgers failed to complete a series sweep in all three opportunities on their road trip out of the All-Star break, but they squandered no such finale against the Oakland Athletics with an 8-2 win.
The Dodgers’ series sweep was their first since taking both games against the Los Angeles Angels from July 7-8. They were led by three hits from Freddie Freeman, but also received contributions from Miguel Rojas, Will Smith, Amed Rosario, David Peralta and Chris Taylor.
Rojas opened the scoring with an RBI double in the second inning, and he went down the left-field line again in the third for another extra-base hit that extended the Dodgers’ lead to 2-0.
After it was trimmed in half, the Dodgers responded with a four-run inning in the bottom of the sixth.

Austin Barnes’ leadoff infield single helped set the table and was eventually cashed in by Smith on a flare into center field. Rosario hit a two-run double and Peralta contributed with a pinch-hit RBI single.
Peralta batted for Max Muncy, who was removed after being hit by a pitch in his left wrist. The Dodgers announced Muncy suffered a wrist contusion and manager Dave Roberts said after the game X-rays came back negative and he is day-to-day.
Freeman, who already had two doubles on the night, added a home run in the eighth inning for good measure. Taylor brought in the Dodgers’ final run of the game with a base hit.
That was more than enough run support for Julio Urías in his five scoreless innings. Emmet Sheehan then made his first relief appearance and allowed two solo home runs en route to converting a four-inning save.
Dodgers injuries
Along with not being certain of Muncy’s status for Friday’s game against the San Diego Padres, the Dodgers expect to be without J.D. Martinez for a fifth consecutive game as he continues to recover from a left groin/adductor issue.
