The Los Angeles Dodgers suffered more than disappointing loss to the San Francisco Giants in the series opener, as they also absorbed injuries to David Peralta and Chris Taylor in the process.

Both occurred in the bottom of the second inning, although the players were removed at different points in the game.

Peralta suffered a strained left hamstring when avoiding the tag from LaMonte Wade Jr. to reach on an infield single. He initially remained in the game after being checked on by Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and trainer Yosuke “Possum” Nakajima, but was removed when the third inning began.

“David kind of has a slight, it’s a hamstring, upper hamstring, lower glute situation,” Roberts said after the loss. “So he’ll be down tomorrow. He wasn’t going to play anyway because (Alex) Wood is going to go. We’ll see how he is tomorrow when he comes in.”

Taylor’s injury also occurred in the bottom of the second inning on his way down the first-base line. Taylor limped as he passed the bag on his groundout but continued to play until Michael Busch pinch-hit in the fourth inning.

“C.T., it was the outside of his knee when he was running down the line. So he’s going to get a scan tomorrow, and we’ll see how he comes in. But he won’t be in there tomorrow,” Roberts said.

“He felt it when he was running down the line. I just saw it when he hit the bag or something, he just didn’t look right when he was running back in the dugout. That’s what it was. For C.T. to say he can’t go is telling.”

The Dodgers to this point have only deemed Taylor’s injury to be right knee pain.

Although Taylor is scheduled for an MRI on Saturday, Peralta will not have any testing on his hamstring/glute for the time being.

How will Dodgers replace Peralta and Taylor?

The Dodgers are running thin on viable options to call up from the Minors, particularly those who already are on the 40-man roster that is full after adding Emmet Sheehan for his MLB debut.

Yonny Hernández figures to be a likely candidate to get recalled if Peralta or Taylor needs to go on the 10-day injured list.
