Dodgers Video: Chris Tucker Throws Out First Pitch At Dodger Stadium

The Los Angeles Dodgers celebrated Black Heritage Night at Dodger Stadium on Wednesday, which among other highlights included actor Chris Tucker of the “Rush Hour” movie franchise and “Air” on hand to throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

Prior to taking the mound in a No. 33 Dodgers jersey, Tucker spoke with Jason Heyward during pregame festivities. The two share a connection by way of being Georgia natives, and Tucker’s nephew played against Heyward in high school.

“I called him right before we got here,” Tucker said. “He told me he struck you out. I don’t know what that’s all about. I don’t know if he’s lying or not.”

Heyward and Tucker additionally discussed the work their respective foundations does and wanting to improve participation and representation for Black athletes in baseball.

That’s also an initiative Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has looked to champion. Roberts is the first African-American manager in Dodgers franchise history.

“I’m excited. Just to continue to raise awareness for Black ballplayers and more to come, hopefully. I think the Dodgers, Major League Baseball does a great job of acknowledging different cultures and backgrounds,” Roberts said before the game.

“I’m excited and I know Mookie and Jason are excited. I know T.A. over there is going to show out, so hopefully we can keep him at bay. My family should be here. I’m excited.”

After joining Tucker for the pregame segment, Heyward got into a crouch behind the plate to catch his first pitch. Tucker’s throw was on target and he celebrated by flinging his glove into the air before posing with Heyward for a photograph.
