The Los Angeles Dodgers selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Nick Robertson from Triple-A Oklahoma City and optioned Tayler Scott prior to their series opener against the Cincinnati Reds.

Robertson pitched in 24 games for OKC, posting a 2-0 record with a 2.13 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 37 strikeouts in 25.1 innings. The 24-year-old held opposing hitters to a .185 batting average while going 7-for-7 in save opportunities.

The right-hander has excelled with a 37.4% strikeout rate compared to a 7.1% walk rate while limiting home runs to just 0.36 per nine innings, giving Robertson a 2.54 FIP on the season.

Robertson’s fastball sits in the mid-90s and tops out at 99 mph, which gives the Dodgers another hard-throwing option in their bullpen. Robertson should begin his Major League career pitching in a middle relief role, but it would not be surprising to see him take on high-leverage opportunities once he is settled in.

Robertson is in his fourth season as part of the Dodgers organization after being selected in the seventh round of the 2019 MLB Draft out of James Madison University. He has gone a combined 5-7 with a 3.50 ERA with 210 strikeouts across 167.1 innings in 132 games.

Dodgers option Tayler Scott

The Dodgers recalled Scott just three days ago on June 3 when Phil Bickford was placed on the 15-day injured list, but he now finds himself back in Triple-A.

Scott pitched 1.2 scoreless innings on Saturday while striking out two as part of his second stint with the Dodgers this season.

The 30-year-old was 3-0 with a 1.37 ERA and 25 strikeouts against 10 walks in 19 games with Triple-A Oklahoma City. He should continue to provide depth for the organization and could return at some point later in the season when the Dodgers are in need of another arm.

He has spent parts of three seasons in the Major Leagues with the Seattle Mariners (2019), Baltimore Orioles (2019), San Diego Padres (2022) and Dodgers. He is a combined 0-1 with an 10.50 ERA and 29 strikeouts in 22 games, making two starts and throwing 30 total innings.

The native of South Africa was signed by the Dodgers as a Minor League free agent on January 3, 2023. He was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the fifth round of the 2011 MLB Draft and made his debut on June 8, 2019, which made him the first South African pitcher in MLB history.
