Legendary shortstop Derek Jeter enjoyed a 20-year career with the New York Yankees that ended after the 2014 season when he announced his retirement as a player.
Since then, the 48-year-old has remained active in the sport. In 2020, he was included on all but one of the 397 ballots that earned him induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Three years prior, Jeter became a part-owner of the Miami Marlins and served as their CEO until leaving the organization in February 2022 to pursue other ventures.
Jeter is now set to join the MLB on Fox broadcast team for the 2023 season. He was introduced as the newest member during Sunday’s Super Bowl LVII pregame coverage.
Jeter will reunite with his former Yankees teammate Alex Rodriguez, who also is part of the MLB on Fox crew. Jeter previously made appearances for the network during its 2022 postseason coverage, but it is unclear what his role will be going forward.
Jeter joining the Fox MLB broadcast team continued what has been a busy offseason for him. He was recently named the cover athlete of the upcoming “MLB The Show 23: The Captain Edition” video game.
The former Yankees shortstop also attended Aaron Judge’s press conference at Yankee Stadium to pass his captaincy role to the 2022 American League MVP.
Derek Jeter latest addition to new-look MLB on Fox broadcast team
Jeter is the latest addition to an MLB on Fox broadcast team that has undergone significant changes over the last year. Los Angeles Dodgers broadcaster Joe Davis replaced Joe Buck as the lead play-by-play announcer during the 2022 season.
“If you had asked me when I was 10 what I wanted to do when I grew up, I would’ve told you ‘Call the World Series.’ So when I say this is a dream-come-true, I really mean it,” Davis said at the time. “One of the best parts about this is the team I get to work with.
“Obviously Smoltzy, I’ve had a blast getting to know John and building such a comfort together in the booth these last few years. He, Kenny and Tom along with our producer Pete Macheska and director Matt Gangl are all superstars – the absolute best at what they do.
“They’ve been so welcoming to me through the years as I’ve worked more and more with their group. It’s all about the people you’re with, and I’m really lucky in that regard.”
