The start of 2023 Los Angeles Dodgers Spring Training is Thursday, February 16, when pitchers and catchers will hold their first workout at Camelback Ranch. The Dodgers’ first full-squad workout then takes place Monday, Feb. 20.
However, Dodgers pitchers and catchers who are participating in the 2023 World Baseball Classic must report to Camelback Ranch by Feb. 13. Position players taking part in the WBC are due to arrive by Feb. 16.
Dodgers workouts at Camelback Ranch are open to the general public. Dodgers Photo Day is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 22.
While those are the dates for official workouts, players have historically reported to Camelback Ranch ahead of when they are formally expected in camp.
Recent signees Shelby Miller and Noah Syndergaard have already made their way to Glendale, Arizona, this offseason to begin working with Dodgers pitching coaches.
Miller is looking to build on a successful showing as a relief pitcher with the San Francisco Giants, and Syndergaard is vying to get back to the “old me.” Part of that is Syndergaard expecting to overhaul his pitch mix from last season and strive to again reach triple digits with his fastball.
Although Clayton Kershaw was re-signed, Dodgers Spring Training will have a much different feeling than years past. Cody Bellinger signed with the Chicago Cubs after getting non-tendered, and Justin Turner joined the Boston Red Sox.
Kershaw (entering his 16th season) and Austin Barnes (ninth) reside as the longest-tenured Dodgers.
“I’ve always thought it was a cool thing,” Kershaw recently said of players spending their entire careers with one team. “The first one that comes to mind is Derek Jeter. He is what exudes Yankees. That’s what you think about. And I got to play against Todd Helton, who was with the Rockies for his whole career. And Chipper Jones.
“There are a lot of good guys out there when you think about an organization, you think about that one guy. That’s still cool. I don’t take any of that for granted.”
