Mookie Betts won a sixth career Gold Glove Award, the second of which has come with the Los Angeles Dodgers, and now he is among the candidates up for vote to receive a 2022 Rawlings Platinum Glove.
Betts is competing against all other 2022 Gold Glove Award winners. Fans can additionally vote for a Platinum Glove winner in the American League.
Rawlings unveiled the first-ever Platinum Glove Award in 2011. Fans can vote daily and be entered to win various prizes from the prestigious glove maker.
Rawlings will award three grand prize winners, with each receiving a $1,000 promotional card for purchases made through the brand’s official website.
Two first prize winners will be selected, with each receiving the opportunity to custom design a glove (maximum value of $489.95 each).
Lastly, five second prize winners will be selected, with those voters each receiving a $50 promo card to Rawlings.com.
St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado won a 10th consecutive Gold Glove Award this season and has additionally been voted the recipient of the Platinum Glove five consecutive years.
Betts led NL right fielders in Total Zone Rating (31) this season, and was second in Ultimate Zone Rating (12.5), Outs Above Average (5) and Defensive Runs Saved (15). He also was a leader in SABR Defensive Index (SDI) for their last update on Aug. 28, with 11.19.
Mookie Betts wins 2022 Fielding Bible Award
The Gold Glove was added to Betts previously being named the recipient of 2022 Fielding Bible Award. He’s now won that five times, which is tied with Arenado for second-most all-time.
Betts’ defensive prowess in right field has never been questioned, but he nevertheless is said to be interested in returning to his natural second base position at some point.
