Recap: Dodgers Lose 3rd Consecutive Game To Rockies

The Los Angeles Dodgers fell 5-2 to the Colorado Rockies, extending their losing streak to three games heading into the final day of the 2022 regular season. The Rockies had previously made MLB history as the first team with back-to-back victories against a 110-win team.

Julio Urías allowed two solo home runs over his five innings of a planned shortened start. He finished the season with the National League ERA title at 2.16, accomplishing the feat for the first time with the lowest mark of his career.

Urías became the first Dodgers pitcher to win the ERA crown since Hyun-Jin Ryu in 2019. He exited with the game tied thanks to an RBI single from Cody Bellinger and Joey Gallo’s home run.

Although Andrew Heaney helped the Dodgers achieve their goal of using just two pitchers on the night, he surrendered a two-run homer to Randal Grichuk in the seventh inning that proved to be the difference.

Heaney’s relief appearance was his second in as many appearances and seemingly more preparation for the role he’ll fill in the postseason. Though, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Heaney potentially starting in the playoffs remained a possibility as well.

Freddie Freeman’s quest for 200 hits and the batting title took another hit as he went 0-for-4. It marked a third consecutive game Freeman went hitless, which was a first this season.

The Dodgers threatened for more runs in the third inning after Bellinger’s base hit, but Trea Turner was robbed of at least one RBI when Garrett Hampson made a diving catch in the left-center field gap.

Justin Turner was 1-for-4 on his bobblehead night. Kourtney Turner sang the national anthem to commemorate the giveaway at Dodger Stadium.

After Monday’s loss, manager Dave Roberts said he wasn’t concerned about the Dodgers lineup hitting a lull over the final games of the regular season.

Dodgers drone delay

Tuesday’s game went into a delay in the third inning when umpires realized a drone was flying over Dodger Stadium, and play didn’t resume until eight minutes later.

It was the second drone delay at Dodger Stadium, with the previous instance coming in 2020, coincidentally also in a game against the Rockies.
