The Los Angeles Dodgers continue to roll through opponents no matter the circumstance. Yesterday’s season finale against the San Francisco Giants went ten rain-soaked innings that included poor visibility due to fog, high winds, and a rare 20-minute rain delay at Oracle Park, yet brought another victory to Los Angeles, their 101st of the season against just 44 losses.
Sunday’s 4-3 extra-inning win also brought Los Angeles’ 2022 season record against San Francisco to 15-4, good for a .789 winning percentage. That’s the highest single-season mark the Dodgers have posted against the Giants in the Modern Era (since 1900). The win also marked the Dodgers’ 52nd road victory this season, which eclipsed the 1952 Brooklyn club for most in franchise history.
The last time the Dodgers beat the Giants 15 times in a single season was in 1953 – just five years before both franchises relocated to the West Coast.
Dodgers Win in Extra Innings
The Dodgers entered the top of the 10th inning with a score of 2-2. Mookie Betts’ doubled with one out off John Brebbia (6-2), driving in ghost runner Cody Bellinger, giving the Dodgers a 3-2 lead. After a Trea Turner pop-out, Brebbia intentionally walked Freddie Freeman and Justin Turner to load the bases. Reliever Thomas Szapucki then walked Muncy to force home what turned out to be the winning run before striking out Trayce Thompson to end the inning.
Dodgers coach Dave Roberts couldn’t conceal his joy after the win over the Giants, hailing his side for showing profound “resilience” in getting the job done.
“I just loved how we completed this entire series. It was the last game of a 10-day road trip, and to go extra innings and to still scratch and claw – I can’t say enough about our guys. It was a team effort”
