The Los Angeles Dodgers activated Tyler Anderson off the paternity list and optioned Andre Jackson to Triple-A Oklahoma City before the second game of a doubleheader against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Anderson returns after being away from the Dodgers for three days. Per MLB roster rules, that is the maximum amount of time a player has to miss while on paternity leave. The minimum period required to be away is one day n the paternity list.
Anderson and his wife Taitym welcomed their third child, a son, over the weekend.
The southpaw is in the midst of an All-Star season with the Dodgers, going 15-3 with a 2.62 ERA and 1.03 WHIP thus far. Anderson has completed seven innings in each of his past three starts, and six of the last nine.
He was originally scheduled to start Monday night in the series opener against the Diamondbacks, but that spot was filled by Clayton Kershaw. It was an easy adjustment for the Dodgers as Kershaw still took the mound on an extra day of rest because Michael Grove was inserted into the rotation last week.
As for Jackson, he returns to Oklahoma City for a second time in the past six days. Jackson was originally optioned on Sept. 14 as a corresponding move to Grove getting recalled, but then returned when Anderson went on the paternity list.
Jackson last pitched in the series finale against the San Francisco Giants but failed to convert his first career save after entering in the bottom of the 10th inning. He allowed one run and exited with the bases loaded.
The appearance was only Jackson’s second with the Dodgers this season, as he previously had thrown two scoreless innings out of the bullpen to finish a win against the San Diego Padres.
Jackson is 2-7 with a 5.00 ERA and 1.70 WHIP over 21 games (19 starts) for Oklahoma City this year.
Dodgers pitching plans for doubleheader
Grove is starting the first game of the doubleheader against the Diamondbacks, and the Dodgers hope Ryan Pepiot can combine with him to cover the majority of the innings.
