Dodgers Highlights: Joey Gallo, Max Muncy Home Runs Against Giants

The Los Angeles Dodgers received home runs from Joey Gallo and Max Muncy en route to eliminating the San Francisco Giants from the National League West race with a 6-3 win.

That lowered the Dodgers’ magic number to clinch the division to seven, and it nearly was trimmed even further but the San Diego Padres completed a walk-off win against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Thus, the earliest the Dodgers can win the NL West is Sunday, in the series finale at Petco Park.

Lewis Brinson provided the Giants with an early lead by ambushing Tyler Anderson’s first pitch of the game for his third home run in the past two nights.

That deficit was erased and the Dodgers never looked back when Joey Gallo hit a three-run home run in the second inning. It was impressive in that it not only came against left-handed relief pitcher Jarlín García, but Gallo launched the ball into the right-center field pavilion with a cracked bat.

Muncy hit a two-run home run in the third inning, and a solo shot to the opposite field in the sixth. Muncy’s second home run of the game provided the Dodgers with insurance as it came after Brandon Crawford’s two-run blast cut their lead to 5-3. The multi-home run game was Muncy’s first of the season.

Tyler Anderson allowed the two homers for three runs as he got through seven innings for a second consecutive start. Anderson had to pitch through some traffic as he allowed eight hits and only finished with three strikeouts.

When will Dodgers clinch NL West?

If all potential outcomes break in the Dodgers’ favor, the earliest they can clinch the NL West is Sunday, in the series finale at Petco Park.
