Tony Gonsolin turned in another dominant performance and home runs by Austin Barnes and Max Muncy led the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 2-1 win over the Milwaukee Brewers. Craig Kimbrel got redemption as L.A. guaranteed themselves a winning record on their road trip and are in position to take the series at American Family Field.

Coming off a start in which he didn’t allow a baserunner until issuing a one-out walk in the sixth inning, Gonsolin was authoring another perfect game against the Milwaukee Brewers. He got through three clean innings and retired Christian Yelich to start the fourth before walking Willy Adames on a borderline pitch.

Gonsolin then induced an inning-ending double play but gave up his first hit on a Keston Hiura single with one out in the fifth. Milwaukee managed just one other base hit off Gonsolin over his seven shutout innings. He finished with eight strikeouts against the one walk.

Gonsolin improved to 15-1 on the season and lowered his ERA down to 2.12. Gonsolin is tied with Justin Verlander for the MLB lead in wins.

Caleb Ferguson was on the verge of completing a 20th consecutive scoreless appearance but a pair of two-out walks led to Christian Yelich cutting the Dodgers’ lead in half with an RBI single in the eighth inning. Ferguson limited the damage but it was his first run allowed this season.

Kimbrel bounced back from a fourth blown save to shut the door by stranding a two-out single and walk. The save was his first in five opportunities with a one-run lead this season. The Dodgers as a team are 9-10 in one-run games.

Dodgers rely on home runs

Brewers starter Eric Lauer has historically pitched well against the Dodgers but needed to escape some trouble after teetering early.

Lauer’s night began with back-to-back walks, only to then retire the next nine batters. Trea Turner’s leadoff single in the fourth inning was wiped out when Kolten Wong and Adames combined for a dazzling double play.

Barnes then broke up the scoreless tie by ambushing the first pitch he saw from Lauer for a leadoff homer in the sixth inning. Muncy added a second solo homer off Lauer in the seventh.
