Chris Taylor made yet another spectacular catch against the Milwaukee Brewers but it was not enough for the Los Angeles Dodgers as they suffered a 5-4 loss in 11 innings.
L.A. fell to 2-6 in extra innings this season and would have seen the Brewers enjoy a walk-off win in the 10th if not for the heroics of Taylor, who was playing in center field to give Cody Bellinger time off.
The Brewers had a runner on second base with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning when Andrew McCutchen lined a ball into left-center field.
Taylor immediately sprinted back and made a diving catch to keep the Dodgers in the game. After the loss, Taylor said it was just a situation where he gave it his all and initially wasn’t sure if he made the play, via SportsNet LA:
“It’s just one of those situations where you know if you don’t catch it, the game’s over. It’s catch it or go home, so I think you have a little bit of that added mentality of giving everything I have. I barely caught it. I actually didn’t even know I caught it until I looked at my glove.”
That catch wasn’t the first time Taylor has pulled off a heroic catch in Milwaukee, of course. He also made an impressive grab in Game 7 of the 2018 National League Championship Series. While both were incredible plays, Taylor said the more recent of the two was a tougher to make:
“I caught it the same way. They were both snow-cone catches and I had to double-check to make sure it was in there. I think the one tonight was probably a little more difficult. Obviously, the other one was a little bigger stage, but [Tuesday’s catch] was one of the better ones.”
Following Taylor’s game-saving catch, the Dodgers took the lead in the top of the 11th on Justin Turner’s RBI single before losing in the bottom half of the inning. Taylor had previously tied it in the seventh inning with a solo home run off Brewers reliever Matt Bush.
Taylor assists Dodgers with backpack drives
Prior to the Dodgers beginning their current road trip, Taylor was among several players who helped distribute backpacks and school supplies at Dodger Stadium.
Taylor and his fiancée Mary Keller also were on hand at the Variety Boys and Girls Club for a back-to-school event, during which they surprised students with tickets to an upcoming Dodgers game.
