The Los Angeles Dodgers are no strangers to playing in front of other current and former athletes, along with celebrities, in attendance at Dodger Stadium. That has included Golden State Warriors teammates Steph Curry and Klay Thompson visiting within a two-week span.
That of course can be attributed to Trayce Thompson, who is performing well in a second stint with the Dodgers. Since being acquired from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for cash considerations, Thompson has batted .281/.378/.510 with eight doubles, four home runs and 17 RBI with the Dodgers.
He wasn’t in the lineup Tuesday night against the Minnesota Twins, nor even aware that half of the NBA’s vaunted Splash Brothers was sitting with Dodgers part-owner Alan Smolinisky. Manager Dave Roberts was, however, and notified Curry of Thompson’s impending pinch-hit appearance in the eighth inning.
“Yeah, I might’ve encouraged Steph to stick around to pretty much watch a bother of his take a Major League at-bat,” Roberts said after the Dodgers’ 10-3 win.
Curry had started down the steps to leave for the night before returning and getting his cell phone out to record Thompson. The four-time champion threw his arms into the air and celebrated as Thompson pulled a double into left field.
“I didn’t see it, but it’s cool. It’s just another family friend, really,” Thompson said. “But it’s pretty cool. I know he’s a busy guy, he’s got three awesome kids, a beautiful wife, great family and everything. It’s cool.”

Curry was shown on the Dodger Stadium video board as he was reacting to Thompson’s double, and he received cheers from fans. That came as a mild surprise considering Dodgers fans historically root for the Los Angeles Lakers, but the warm reception kept Los Angeles Clippers players as the only athletes who are booed each time in attendance.
