The Los Angeles Dodgers came out of the All-Star break with some momentum and after a back-and-forth affair with the San Francisco Giants in the series opener at Dodger Stadium, now look to extend their winning streak to six games.
Justin Turner is out of the Dodgers lineup as he remains bothered by abdominal tightness. Turner was removed in the eighth inning on Thursday night, but not before pushing his on-base streak to 17 games with a two-run double.
Turner is batting .385 with a 1.006 on-base plus slugging percentage during the month of July. Max Muncy is at third base, which has become commonplace, but the domino effect from Turner’s absence has Gavin Lux slotted sixth in the lineup, the highest he has hit this season.
Furthermore, both Jake Lamb and Trayce Thompson are starting. Lamb struck out when he pinch-hit for Turner, and Thompson is coming off a 2-for-4 effort that included a game-tying RBI triple.
On the mound, Tyler Anderson makes his first start since throwing six shutout innings against the St. Louis Cardinals on July 14. Anderson earned a first career All-Star Game selection but he did not appear in the National League’s loss.
Anderson enters 10-1 with a 2.96 ERA this year. Combined with Tony Gonsolin, the Dodgers were the first team with multiple pitchers to reach 10 wins this season.
San Francisco counters with Logan Webb, who is 9-3 with a 2.83 ERA. Webb has earned a win in his past two starts and logged at least six innings in seven consecutive outings.
