Andrew Heaney turned in a gem and Freddie Freeman led the Los Angeles Dodgers with four hits to help lead the way in a 9-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds. The Dodgers completed their first four-game sweep of the Reds since accomplishing the feat from April 14-17, 1975.
While Heaney was keeping the Reds at bay with his new sweeping slider, Tyler Mahle relied on a four-seam fastball to keep the game knotted in a scoreless tie through three innings. But like has happened on several occasions this season, the Dodgers quickly exploded.
Freeman lit the spark in the fourth inning with a leadoff single, which Trea Turner followed with a walk. Max Muncy then ambushed Mahle’s first pitch for a two-run double to give the Dodgers a 2-0 lead.
“It was kind of just making the adjustment for what they’ve been doing the last four games against me,” Muncy said of his extra-base hit. “You know, I give those guys credit, they made a lot of good pitches against me and I finally was able to get one.
“It was big for the team, big for me, confidence booster. But it was kind of just taking the chance that they were going to do the same thing they’ve been doing, and I got lucky they did.”

Justin Turner’s infield single put runners on the corners for Will Smith, who delivered an RBI double. Chris Taylor added a two-run double and Freeman’s second hit of the inning — a single to drive in a pair — knocked Mahle out of the game and capped off the seven-run fourth.
Freeman hit an RBI single in the eighth inning and Hanser Alberto did as well to further put the game away.
Despite another offensive outburst, Trea Turner was not part of it and had his career-best hitting streak snapped at 27 games.

Heaney built off his debut with L.A. by throwing six scoreless innings and finishing with 11 strikeouts. He allowed just one hit and issued three walks.
