The Los Angeles Dodgers advanced to the World Series for the second consecutive year, defeating the Milwaukee Brewers in seven games in the National League Championship Series. They capped it off with a 5-1 victory in the decisive Game 7 on Saturday night.

It was a team effort for the Dodgers to earn the series victory, but it was Cody Bellinger who was rewarded with the NLCS MVP Award. Bellinger did not do a whole lot offensively in the series, but the hits he did come up with came in big situations.

He went just 5-or-25 (.200 batting average) with three runs scored, four RBI and a home run. The homer was a big one as it was his first of the postseason and ended up being a game-winner in Game 7.

It came in the top of the second inning off Brewers starter Jhoulys Chacin when the Dodgers were trailing 1-0. Bellinger’s two-run shot gave the Dodgers a 2-1 lead, which ended up standing for the victory after Yasiel Puig added some insurance with a three-run homer of his own.

Bellinger also came up big for the Dodgers in Game 4 of the series, hitting a walk-off single in the bottom of the 13th to score Manny Machado and complete a 2-1 victory. Perhaps a bigger play in that game was a diving catch he made in right field in the top of the 10th inning though to rob Lorenzo Cain of a leadoff single.

The 23-year-old has been a Swiss Army knife for the Dodgers all season, playing first base and the outfield. He has certainly had his struggles, but he came up huge for his team when they needed it most this series and he will look to continue to do that in the World Series.
