DodgerHeads: Should The Dodgers, Lakers & Rams Have Held Joint Championship Parade?

Los Angeles has become the city of champions recently as the Dodgers won the 2020 World Series, the Lakers won the 2020 NBA Finals and the Rams just won Super Bowl LVI.

Unfortunately for the Dodgers and Lakers, they were not able to celebrate their championships fully as both won during the pandemic-impacted seasons. The city missed out on a parade due to coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions, but it was expected both teams would celebrate later.

Now more than a year removed from those titles, the Rams held their parade last week for winning Super Bowl 56. Before it took place, LeBron James tweeted that L.A. should hold a joint parade while Mookie Betts echoed his sentiment.

On the latest “DodgerHeads,” host Jeff Spiegel discussed whether the Dodgers and Lakers should have joined the Rams for their championship parade.

Spiegel argued parades aren’t very important and it would have been weird to celebrate a title long after it was won, especially after a season where they didn’t win the championship.

“It’s been quite a stretch for Los Angeles, and for me, I don’t need a parade to validate that. I don’t need a parade to confirm that,” he said. “Parades are fun in the short term, but in the long term, I don’t think that’s part of the deal.”

Spiegel also went on to say it was the Rams’ spotlight and it wouldn’t have been something they would want to share.

Although it was the Rams’ second Super Bowl in their franchise history, it was their first in L.A. as they try to build up their fanbase in the city.

Dodgers eliminating Giants in NLDS nominated at 2021 L.A. Sports Awards

Despite tying a franchise record with 106 wins last season, the Dodgers had their streak of National League West titles snapped at eight because the San Francisco Giants put together a historically great year as well.

After defeating the St. Louis Cardinals in walk-off fashion in the Wild Card Game, the Dodgers and Giants were set for an NL Division Series showdown. It went five games, with the Dodgers emerging victorious in dramatic fashion at Oracle Park.

Their Game 5 win has been nominated for the Top Sports Moment at the 2021 L.A. Sports Awards. Voting runs through Tuesday, March 8, when the Sports Awards will be broadcast on SportsNet LA, Spectrum News 1 and Spectrum SportsNet.
