Although Mookie Betts is most known as an All-Star and World Series champion outfielder for the Los Angeles Dodgers, he is also a fantastic bowler.
Betts has participated in multiple pro-am tournaments and he has bowled a perfect game multiple times, both recreationally and in the World Series of Bowling.
He also competed in the West Region qualifier for the 2022 PBA Players Championship earlier this month and finished 30th out of the 64 members who participated.
Betts bowled an average score of 191.75 per game but admitted to having more nerves during the tournament than he did helping the Dodgers win the 2020 World Series, via the PBA Tour:
“I think I was more nervous here than Game 6 of the World Series. I was pretty nervous to be here. I forgot how mentally exhausting this is. And physically as well; 28 games in two days, that’s a lot. It is what it is. Again, I just forgot how hard it is. It’s been a little while since I got out here to bowl in a league. You think you’ll be fine, but out here is a different animal.”
Betts became the key missing piece the Dodgers needed as he hit .269/.321/.577 in six games during the 2020 World Series, which included the home run that essentially sealed Game 6 and the championship.
Prior to helping the team win the World Series, the 29-year-old was also bowling when he received the news of being traded to the Dodgers.
When Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman called Betts after completing the trade with the Boston Red Sox in February 2020, the former American League MVP politely asked if he could finish bowling before the two held their conversation.
Betts launches gaming channel on YouTube
Betts has also started his own gaming channel on YouTube, becoming the latest athlete to jump into the video game world.
According to his YouTube channel description, Betts enjoys playing battle royale games — a genre that has been dominated by “Fortnite,” “Call of Duty: Warzone” and “Apex Legends” in recent years.
The two-time World Series champion also revealed that he will occasionally play “Madden NFL 22,” and primarily uses the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Buffalo Bills as his teams.
